L'Oreal Wild Ombre Hair Kit

So I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for about a year now. I had it cut from very long to very very short and eventually just got bored of it.

But now I have the painful task of growing it out as well as growing the red out and I just got bored again. I was going to wait until after my birthday and get honey blonde highlights but I thought, as this is a new product, I should give it a go.

I found about L’Oreal Wild Ombre a while ago when I saw it on the superdrug website and I immediately wanted to try it. Ombre hair is definitely a love it or hate it look, I was a bit on the fence at first but after a couple of weeks of deliberation I decided to just do it. I still plan on getting the highlights so I have nothing to lose really!

In the box you get your usual tools and potions. Hair dye and gloves, only in this kit you get a small plastic comb to brush the lightener through with.

One of my main concerns was how short my hair is and if it would look a bit weird. However in the instructions it does tell you to brush the product from the ears down and luckily I had enough hair below my ears to make it worth it!

So you do the usual shaking up of the mixture, and then apply it to the comb instead of straight to the hair like you would normally. This is very easy, the product isn’t too thick or too runny and you get plenty even for really long hair.

Then brush it through, the one thing I did learn that it doesn’t tell you in the instructions is to make sure your hair is completely covered in the lightener. I mean you can’t even see your hair through the product.

Leave it for 25-45 minutes depending on how light you want your hair and then wash off using the provided shampoo.

I used my Lee Stafford treatment to try and give my hair a little comforting after the harsh bleaching and it doesn’t seem too bad at the moment.

The end result I was pretty pleased with! It made the ends of my hair (which still had red and brown dye on it) go a light ginger, which I knew would happen. But the result is gradual; it doesn’t stop suddenly half way up my hair, which was another one of my worries.

I don’t think I’d do it again however. The product, if you want ombre hair at a reasonable non-salon price is fantastic and definitely worth purchasing, but for me I just don’t love it as much as I thought I would. I think on long hair it looks lovely but on my short hair it just doesn’t have the “oh my god I love it” factor.

So to summarise, the L’Oreal Wild Ombre Home Kit is a fantastic product for getting ombre hair at home. However ombre hair isn’t for me I’m afraid, only 4 weeks though until my birthday and I can treat myself to a bit of salon colouring :D
