Maybelline: The Mega Plush Mascara Review

Todays review is all about the brand new mascara by Maybelline, The Mega Plush Mascara!

This has been recently released in the UK and here is what Maybelline have to say about it:
“Our 1st Gel Mousse Mascara
Mega volume goes mega plush!
Our new formula with 40% less hard waxes* and flexor brush create massive lush volume.”
I was originally attracted to the claim of a “Gel Mousse” formula as I had never tried this type of mascara before, it intrigued me.

So I’ll start with the packaging. I love the bright Turquoise tube and Magenta detail, it looks vibrant and very summery. It is the typical shape of the Maybelline Volum’ mascaras, which I love as I think they are the perfect size and weight. It feels sturdy in the hand and fits nicely in a small handbag.

Next onto the wand. This is where this product looses a few points unfortunately. I love the actual brush, it’s the perfect size and shape for my small eyes and the bristles grab the lashes fantastically. It really coats and separates every lash perfectly and I don’t have a bad thing to say about it. However! The felxi wand is completely pointless. It doesn’t seem to benefit the overall outcome in any way, if anything it makes it difficult to control especially if you’re trying to put on a second or third coat and your lashes are a little stiffer. This flexi brush seems to be becoming a regular feature in Maybelline’s mascaras and I just don’t see why! It is definitely a gimmick to make the mascara a bit more “scientifically” appealing.

Moving on to a more positive note, the actual product is gorgeous! It glides on so smoothly and really separates, giving you much more fuller looking lashes. It is buildable to a certain degree, it wont give you masses of volume, but a good 3 coats is usually enough for me.

The formula isn’t too runny and isn’t too thick, it is just the right consistency which means that it has absolutely no problems with clumping. Something about the words “Gel Mousse” sets alarm bells ringing however, I don’t usually suffer with smudging so I can’t tell you if this does smudge, however the formula does sound like smudging might be a problem. If you have tried this and suffer with smudging mascaras please let me know how it fares.

Overall this has very quickly become one of my all time favourite mascaras. It is just such a pleasure to wear and really gives me the separation and length that I look for in my mascaras.
