The Great Graduate Job Hunt

In one of my recent chatty videos I mentioned the very odd 'post-Uni' feeling. The feeling of floating through life with absolutely no sense of how your future is going to pan out. This feeling of being completely and utterly lost can have you thinking of about 100 different plans for your exciting life that will either be a) far too expensive or b) so far fetched it's completely unachievable.

A good place to start your new found adulthood is by getting a job, something that is a lot easier said than done. If you are like me and have no clue as to what career you want to adopt for the remainder of your life, finding a full-time job can be extremely daunting. That's why I've chosen the intern route.

Doing an internship can be a bit of a gamble, you can either be making cups of tea for everyone and filling out spreadsheets or getting stuck in and actually doing some proper work. I chose internships because they give you the most realistic experience of what that job is actually like. It can also help you 'feel' out companies, find out if they're good to work for and what the people who already work there are like to work with.

Unfortunately, internships seem to be the only form of work experience a grad can actually get. Apprenticeships are predominantly closed to anyone with a degree, so if you are looking to go for a career in something you didn't get a degree in, it can be a lot harder to get the work experience needed to land that perfect full-time position.

It is possible though, if you have spent the last 3 years doing a degree in a subject you're simply not interested in anymore and you have found something else you're passionate about, go freelance. Even if you don't want to be freelance for the rest of your career, this will help you gain the experience needed to get an internship or in some cases, get that dream job you've always wanted.
