#SongOfTheWeek: Dan Croll - From Nowhere (Baardsen Remix)

This weeks #SongOfTheWeek comes from Dan Croll, yet another song I discovered in the Spotify UK Viral 50 playlist. This one is similar to others I've posted in the past, you might start seeing a pattern. Another chilled out tune with lots of awesome electric beats, nothing too heavy but enough to get you moving. 

The thing I love the most about this track is when the beat drops after the first verse and that pulsing electric riff kicks in. This is the Baardsen Remix, the original isn't quite as electric heavy and it's a lot more indie/rock. 

There's not much more I can say about this, if you love your electric Chillout music and you've loved my other songs of the week then you'll probably fall in love with that riff like I did. 

#SongOfTheWeek: Tomas Barford - Pulsing (feat Nina K)

Another song I found in the same mix as last weeks Mononoke. I can't tell you what it is about this track that makes me love it so much, maybe it's its strong bass punching through, maybe it's the hauntingly relaxed vocals. One thing is for certain, it's one of those you can't stop listening to.

I think I've made it pretty clear by now that I love a good electro chill-out tune, anything that really grabs the eardrums but then soothes and calms. The main point that really stands out for me is the pulsing rhythm, I don't know if this was a creative choice to coincide with the name, but I like to think so.

#SongOfTheWeek: Mononoke - Alice

Mononoke is a London based singer who is so new and up-coming that I can find barely any information on her. All I know is I found her through a mix on SoundCloud and her voice is unbelievably soothing, and all three of her songs currently uploaded are beautiful.

If you love London Grammar then this is for you, it has a similar chilled out, slightly electronic sound that soothes and feels like it's massaging your brain (a strange thing to think about). Alice is a slow, stripped back melodic track that is slightly melancholy but has something uplifting about it. The vocals carry everything and they are well and truly on point. As soon as I heard this I started internet stalking her, I've now found her official Facebook page, which will hopefully keep me up to date with any releases. I also found her YouTube, it's only got the three music videos on there at the moment but I'm eagerly waiting for some more. 

So if you fancy a chill out session, grab a cup of tea, your best noise cancelling headphones and whack on a bit of Mononoke.

#SongOfTheWeek: Tune-Yards - Water Fountain

When this first popped up on my Spotify I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not, it took a few plays before it really started to stick with me. It's definitely a different style from what I usually listen to; it doesn't really blend in with the deep house and weird electro music I have saved in my many playlists.

Nevertheless it holds its own, a really up beat, fun and bright song that makes me happy. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, a feel good song that makes you picture summer, water fights and messing about with friends. I don't even know where to put this when it comes to genre, in the pop category maybe?

I can understand if this isn't to everyone's taste, I wasn't even sure if it was mine! But if you love music that is unique, original and a little bit weird, then this is for you. I could only find the live version on Soundcloud but it still sounds pretty awesome, give it a chance... or 20.

#SongOfTheWeek: First Aid Kit - Wolf

I recently found First Aid Kit on one of my many Spotify sessions and fell in love with their sound immediately. It's hard to try and describe what genre of music they fall in to, it's a mix between country, folk and a bit of pop acoustic, does that make sense? I don't think it does.

This is true festival music, the sort of song you whip out your Indian headdresses to, swing your flowing gypsy skirts and jingle jangle your excessive amount of bangles. I've been sat here for a while trying to think of what it sounds similar to, and the only thing I can come up with is a mix between Florence and the Machine and Laura Marling. Wolf is from their 2012 debut album, Lion's Roar, and was a single which unfortunately never made it to the charts. Its strong beat and gorgeous harmonies are a pleasure to listen to and make you want to throw out some Kate Bush style arm gestures whilst dancing around a campfire. 

This Swedish sister act is relatively new to the music scene, but I think they'll be extremely popular this summer. Their new album, Stay Gold, will be released on the 9th June, right on time for festival season.

#SongOfTheWeek: Ben Khan - Youth

There's nothing I love more than finding new artists and songs to listen to, it does mean hours of listening to pretty rubbish songs on Soundcloud and Spotify, but sometimes you find little gems. I heard Ben Khan's Savage on Soundcloud and really liked it, it didn't have me hitting the replay button but it had something about it. I didn't look into his profile any further after that, but now I wish I had!

There's a very handy little playlist on Spotify called Viral 50, it lists 50 songs that have been making the rounds on the old tinternet. Some are brand spanking new from shiny new musical artists, some are songs from adverts or viral videos. Playlists like these are amazing ways to find new music and it was on the Viral 50 UK playlist that I found this, I haven't stopped listening to it since.

I do love me some electronic music and this really captured the old ear drums, starting off nice and soft, relaxing you and making you feel all warm and fuzzy and then BAM! It gets you dancing and swaying in your seat. A really feel good tune for summer that makes you chilled out but also ready to bust some moves (in a chilled out, slow dancing sort of way). If you're a fan of the 1975 this might do it for you, it has a similar kind of feel to it, a slight 80's synth sound with an amazing back beat and strong vocals, love it!
