Fashion Friday: Cannes Fashion For All Budgets

Tighten Those Purse Strings

You've probably all seen the endless stream of gorgeous dress after gorgeous dress at this years Cannes Film Festival. There have been some truly stunning dresses this year (can we all bow down to the beauty that is Blake Lively for just one moment?) but it got me thinking, what would I wear to Cannes?

Of course the majority, if not all of these glimmering starlet's outfits cost more than my house, and there is no way I'd be able to afford a Zac Posen or McQueen gown for the occasion. Instead I thought I would throw together three different outfits, all Cannes red carpet worthy, but all different budgets. You never know, I might suddenly become a world famous actress and get an invite for next year.

My favourite of the three is the most expensive, that McQueen dress makes me want to weep a little. I do also love the other two, the soft yellow drape dress and periwinkle blue Grecian style dress are vibrant yet soft and feminine, something I don't usually go for but seems perfect for Cannes. I was initially going to throw some jewellery into the mix, but the embellishment on the dresses and clutches take care of any bling that might be needed.  It was fun seeing what I could get for how much and it just proves that you can give those stars a run for their money without making yourself bankrupt!

Give this a go over on polyvore and tell me what your dream Cannes outfit would be!

Fashion Friday: Leather & Lace

You may or may not know that I'm a bit of a Polyvore addict. And if you are completely clueless as to what Polyvore actually is, let me explain. Polyvore is a magical, wonderful website that lets you create rather attractive fashion sets like the one displayed above. You can search through endless sets of high-street fashion to high-end and also home and even beauty sets. The above set is one that I created recently and seeing as fashion also begins with an 'f' (much like the word 'Friday') I wanted to introduce a new Fashion Friday feature!

The above set came about through my inability to style my new faux-leather skirt. Despite the fact that I can't actually afford a fair few of the pieces in this outfit, I love how it's feminine but with a slight rocker feel. I've never been much of a lace and frills kind of girl but I do like to look feminine when I go out. I've teamed a faux-leather skirt to add an edge to the softness of the lace cream top, the skirt is fitted around the waist and the top is oversized crop, so the combination gives the illusion of a smaller waist. The very expensive but very beautiful royal blue pumps add a splash of colour to a monochrome outfit, I am very guilty of not incorporating enough colour into my wardrobe so accessories are where most of my outfits get their colour from. Then I've gone with just a few added extras, nothing to big and garish but I did fall in love with the holographic clutch, which makes a great statement piece.

I wanted to create an outfit that I would be able to wear to student nights in clubs, so it couldn't be too fancy but also couldn't be too casual. I like that I could team the skirt and top with a pair of tights and my Dr Martens and have it still look stylish during the day. When you're a poor student versatile outfits are the only way.
