Favourite Photography Apps

As an avid photographer and frequent blogger it is important that I can take pictures at the drop of a hat. Having a shiny smartphone that has the capability to take hi res pictures and edit them with lots of creative filters and other features is essential for me. I have had a good test of my fair share of photo apps and it has taken a lot of downloading and deleting to find a handful of trusty photo staples.

The giant of photo apps, Instagram, is a firm favourite of mine and is one of the many social media tools bloggers and vloggers should use. With the ability to add hashtags it is a great platform for getting any content seen by a wider audience. That could be your new YouTube video, a new blog post or a favourite recipe. It also allows you to instantly share your images on various social media platforms with just the click of a button, very handy.

My only issue with Instagram is its lack of editing features, it has a few classic filters but it ends there. So before I upload my images to Instagram I like to put them through a more creative app called Picfx. In Picfx you can add a whole load of different filters, textures, light effects making you look like a Photoshop pro without the confusion of learning Photoshop. From there you can choose to save to your camera roll or upload to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and many more.

Sometimes I want to add text or be a bit quirkier with my images so I open up A Beautiful Mess. This is the only app out of the ones I'm talking about that I actually paid for. It's by no means expensive and comes in at 69p in the app store. It allows me to add some finishing touches to really make my pictures unique; I mainly use this when I want to add text to a video thumbnail when uploading to Instagram.

Finally, there are times when I want to put two images side by side or have a few images in one. For this task I like to use Photo Collage, a great collage app that has all the frames and collage templates you could ever possibly need. It is really simple to use and now comes with more creative style frames.

Do you often use your phone for taking pictures? Do you like to edit them or leave them as they come?

  2. I was just thinking of doing a post like this! Always great to find new photo apps. A Beautiful Mess is one of my favorite along with Afterlight or PicFx! Instagram filters are only there when I'm super duper lady, haha!
